I just bought a 7 week-old puppy. When should I start training her? Start training the day you bring her home! Remember, she is just a baby, but can learn new things very quickly. Gentleness is the key here. Use lots of positives. I've heard the term Puppy Imprinting. What exactly does that mean? Imprinting is teaching your new puppy the things you want them to do for the rest of their lives, and not allowing them to develop any bad behaviors. What's the best method of training for my new rescue dog? We believe in a Balanced Method of training. As closely as humans can, we emulate how dogs communicate with each other naturally in a pack environment. I've been thinking of hiring a private trainer, but group classes seem to be less expensive. What's the real difference between the two? In group classes, you will be taught the same exercises as everyone else in class. You will need to travel to the class and may have only minutes of individual instruction each week. Your dog may also be nervous or extremely distracted in the group environment, which will make learning new commands very difficult. About Time Dog Training comes right to your home where you will have the entire session devoted to you and your dog and your specific goals. You can proceed at your own pace without being concerned about falling behind the rest of the class or being bored if they move too slowly. We can help you design a training plan that directly meets ALL your specific training and behavior objectives. How long will it take to get my dog trained? This will depend on what you are trying to accomplish and how much time you train. Some of the more basic obedience commands can be taught in a very short time. About Time Dog Training shows you how to use the "three keys to successful dog training" to make progress quickly and get reliable results! How much time will I need to spend training my dog? For the quickest and best results, we suggest you spend about 10-15 minutes twice a day doing structured training. But playtime and just hanging-out are great opportunities for training as well. Multiple sessions of shorter duration are more productive than one longer session. Above all, aim to keep your training time enjoyable and a very positive experience. Your dog will learn more quickly, and you will both have more fun. How many lessons will I need and how long does each session last? If you want to teach your dog the basic obedience commands, we would suggest six sessions. If you want additional obedience exercises, or need help eliminating some bad behavior problems, you should consider more. You can save money with our customized multi-session packages! Individual sessions are also available. Each of our private training or behavior counseling and modification sessions will last a minimum of one hour. |
